The historic Moore Town of Jamaica is home to a tribe of maroons and the gorgeous waterfall which they protect, Nanny Falls.

Nanny Falls is a small waterfall within an easy hour’s walk from Moore Town. Ask any local to indicate where the trail starts, just above Nanny’s grave. Tucked away in the mountains is the beautifully secluded Nanny Falls. Named after Jamaica’s national heroine, Nanny of the Maroons, Nanny Falls is both heroic and historic. The falls is located 45 minutes away from Moore Town, Portland. This secret paradise offers an unforgettable experience with nature, along with a taste of Jamaican history.

The Nanny Falls has healing properties and the warriors, in times gone by, would come here to prepare for battle. While they were preparing, they would take a cut and then take a dip in the waters of the falls. If they returned with the cut they would not be allowed to go into battle
